PEDIATRIC EPILEPSY PROGRAM FOR CHILD NEUROLOGY RESIDENTS

This 3 day comprehensive course is designed specifically for child neurology residents and is presented by distinguished guest faculty from around the country. Participants attend and give case presentations (there is a case study requirement) and advance their knowledge through lectures sessions, EEG & case workshops, and peer group discussions.

APPLICATION & SELECTION CRITERIA

Invitations for the course are mailed directly to the Child Neurology program directors. A limited number slots are available for this program and eligible candidates will be accepted to the program in the order that applications are received. Wednesday: Epileptic Seizures and Syndromes; Evolution of Seizures in Children; Neonatal Seizures & Infantile Spasms; Febrile Seizures & FS+; Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome; Benign Partial Seizures; Generalized Epilepsies; EEG Workshops (Presented by Faculty); Conditions that Mimic Epilepsy; Initial Evaluation: First Seizure; Evening Case Presentations

Thursday: Principles of Pediatric EEG; Quality of Life: Advice to Parents; Principles of Pediatric Neuropharmacology; Seizure Mechanisms & AED Mechanisms of Action; Pediatric Use of AEDs; AED Formulations & Generic Issues; AED Interactions; Case Workshops (Presented by Faculty); Adverse Effects of AEDs; Discontinuance of AEDs; Refractory Seizures: Definitions/Predictors/Causes; Effects of Seizures on the Developing Brain; Evening Case Presentations

Friday: Ketogenic Diet & Other Therapies; Common Genetics & Metabolic Disorders Associated with Epilepsy; Epilepsy Monitoring; Case Workshops (Presented by Faculty); Epilepsy Surgery in Children; Co-morbidities of Pediatric Epilepsy; Acute Seizures and Status Epilepticus; Epilepsy in the IDD Patient; Epilepsy in Adolescents; Social Issues in Epilepsy
